Shadow Shot Sunday : Art Sneak Peek

I can't believe it's already time for another shadow shot!  Where does the week go?  I wanted to share a new art piece with you but it's not quite done.  Just needs to dry so I can do the final details.  So I'm going to give you a lil' up close up detail shot just to tease ....uh..err.....to hold you over I mean.

Shadow Shot Sunday : Struggle

Here are my shadow shots for this week.  I've been struggling with whether or not to use these photos for this week.  I like them, but wasn't sure if they were too simple...or something... but there's just something about that top one that grabs me.   But then I think...no, it's boring.....BUT I keep coming back to it...

In the end, as you can see, it won.

OWOH Winner Announcement

Well, the brilliant madness is over!!  What a crazy time!  This OWOH blog hop was so huge, I didn't even make it to half the blogs on the list!  I still plan on hopping around now that it's over.  I am always looking to find new artsy blogs to inspire me, but now I'll do it at a much more leisurely pace (big sigh of relief).  I had a blast though and man...there are some very inspiring people out there.  My reading list is growing...

So enough of the chit chat...the winner of my mixed media Eiffel Tower art piece is the lovely and talented Andrea of My Everything Corner!  Congrats Andrea!!! Go check out her wonderful blog.  I love her jewelry and am very jealous of the person that won Andrea's OWOH giveaway necklace! sigh..so pretty!

Oh, and if you're wondering what the top photo has to do with this post...nothing!!  I just wanted to put a pretty photo there and this one goes so well with my painting!  It's that same church in Pasadena, that I've already showed tons of photos of.

Finished Texture Painting : True Colors

Hi there.  I've got a new painting to show you!  Just finished the final little details on it today.  It has many of my favorite things...texture, a peacock feather... which of course includes peacock colors, copper (well actually a combo of copper and soft brass), and lots of texture (yes, I know I said it twice!).

There are SO many layers on here!  Heavy gel medium, which I drew into when wet, then layer after layer of paint and glazes.

It is painted on a gallery wrapped 9 x 12 inch canvas.

And speaking of gallery, that's why I've been so quiet around here.  This painting and many others you've seen here, along with others that are in progress, will be on their way to hang (and hopefully sell)  in an art gallery soon!  I'm so excited!    And I will also be working on getting my jewelry AND photography there too!  What a dream come true!  More details to come...

And just for fun, I though I'd show some in-progress photos of this piece.  The first one below shows the first layers of paint.  I had a bit of a different plan for the painting.  I was going to do it in the EXACT colors of my "Finding Balance" painting so they would hang well together, but the painting decided that's not what it wanted.  So after adding several more layers of paint and glaze over this...

I finally decided to listen to what it wanted.
To be an artist is to be brave so...I had to be brave and do this...

paint most of it out with Titan Buff (off white) and start the new layers!  Eek!  But I was excited to take that step because I knew that's where it needed to go.  Things go a lot smoother and are a lot more fun when I listen to the art and my own intuition.

Try to do the same for yourself...be brave and listen.

Shadow Shot Sunday : Valentine's Shadows

These photos were taken a few weeks back through the window of a wonderful little artsy store in Pasadena, CA called Zinnia.  It's a dangerous place to visit if you are a mixed-media artist, so luckily : ( it was closed when I went to take these photos.  They have a fun little Valentine's display up and I loved the way the hanging roses were casting shadows on the brick wall, along with the fantastic shadow of the store name.

These are my shadow shots for this week.  To join in visit Hey Harriet for Shadow Shot Sunday.

And once again, I'm sorry haven't been around here or many of your blogs lately, I'll explain in the next week or two.  (I'm soooo excited!)
